what if you want to set up a server? said by roc5955:It's just a way for them to prevent you from setting up a server, which uploads data. They don't want their network bogged down uploading garbage from every little P2P user. What if a customer, who's paying for their internet connection each month wants to set up a server? Or what if a user wants to experiment with high quality audio/video streaming? In other words why not allow users to actually be able to use upload as well as download speeds? I realize that consumer grade internet technologies such as cable and DSL are by design Asymmetrical, but especially with cable, even existing docsis 1.1/2.0 systems are capable of much better upload speeds than what 99% of cable providers give us. Why can't all cable users have at least an option of getting better upstream if that's what they want? If I want 2MBPs or even 3MBPS upload, than why not offer say a symmetrical 3000/3000 tier, which is possible? When will we get the chance to see what cable can really do, and not just in the downstream direction? I have 10mbps/1mbps through Charter, and I'd be happy if my download remained at 10mbps while the upload got bumped to 2 or 3mbps. One final thing I don't get is while I have Charter 10/1 service, Charter business cable users only get 5/1, so they pay over $200 a month for their internet, and don't get any better internet speeds, not even in the upstream direction where you'd think for that kind of money you'd get at least a bit more speed? What's up with that! |

There are plenty of outlets that will host your server for far less than the cost of a Cable connection. |

Protools sessions for school can go to about 850 MBs, with 512 kbps upload it'd take three hours to send the thing to someone. With my current upstream speed it would take me 13 minutes tops. |
