No need for a backpack. Just buy the lightest laptop out there. It gets 12.5 hours. 12" screen. |

Re: long power notebooks Notice that if you can pop your Optical drive like that notebook has none, then you will get better battery life. I have a Pentium M 1G with dual batts (one replaces the CD) and I get about 8 hours of life. less if Im broswing the web which runs the HDD alot. Anyone know a good way to create a ramdisk in XP?
If you were really thinking and didn't mind the weight, go with a small APC, just don't tell the TSA that it uses **Gel** batteries. The other route though it is even more weight is a larger 12V battery and a small inverter, though if there is an auto adapter for your notebook that would be even better. DC to DC conversion is better than DC to AC to DC even taking into account that newer switching inverters claim high conversion efficencies >80%.
As to retro fitting boxes into airports, most airport walls I've seen are block alone, block and rebar, or block with rebar filled with concrete, I'd hate to try to fish any new service though that, not to mention getting it from the Pannel box to whichever wall you have chosen for your AC needs. Oh you also need to make sure that where ever you set this up that people won't be in a high traffic area where tripping may be an issue in our SUE-happy society.
Edit: Also how may airports have you been in that don't have concrete floors? Comercial construction as has been pointed out, is not to the same duty cycle as wimpy home service, and don't forget that the fire from overloading outlets doesn't necessarily happen at the outlet, but could happen in the wall.

It does have the extended battery on it, runs for a good while on a full charge but still usually isn't enough over the course of a flight plus layover.

Actually, that's not the rocket science you may think it is. A small car battery (or 12v ATV battery), lighter socket connected to battery, and a car(12Volt) charger for your laptop plugged into lighter socket.
Of course, hauling around a car battery is ridiculous, but my point is, it is very -- "I invented it, Bill made it famous." --David Bradley, the inventor of Ctrl+Alt+Del. |
