The most disgusting thing about this new policy is that bandwidth costs Bell roughly 5-6 cents/GB and their network is in very good shape. There's no good reason to justify bandwidth caps. It seems that they're trying to take advantage of people who aren't aware of the caps. People affected will be notified by email, not by a phone call and Sympatico's email service is known to be unreliable since their partnership with Microsoft's MSN service began.
This only affects new users for the time being but this is only because they want to see how it goes over. Eventually, caps will be introduced to all customers unless there is a massive revolt.
If they truly only wanted to pass on the cost of bandwidth to heavy users they would charge what they pay for it - 5-6 cents/GB. But they are just trying to gauge people. It's ridiculous. | |
