I've been using Grisoft since 1999 and notwithstanding update debacles on the free version, it has yet to let me down. Consumers are basically paying the likes of Mac & Norton for the marketing of FUD year after year. Meanwhile, the apps themselves are nothing but bloatware, particularly Norton.

I've gotten a popup window saying that AVG Free won't be free anymore after January 2007 and that I must upgrade to the AVG Anti Virus Profession Edition ($38.95 for 2 year subscription). I've gotten this popup when stuff is loading in the system tray during startup. Can anyone else here confirm that AVG won't be free anymore after January? Are there any better alternatives for the money?
