Took awhile to get it fixed, but I would never resort to DSL. They are a growing company, pretty new to VOIP, just takes time if you have it. You sound persistent which is good. E-mail those speed tests every week! Get to know those tier 1 reps by their name :D jk.. remember that they do want what you want, but there is only so much that can be done at that level. From my experience this takes time! It's not like they don't know  If you have had a tech call and tell you that there is nothing they can do about it then most likely it has been escalated to the NOC(Network Operations Center)and it's just a matter of time. Time frame, you may never know, sorry, a bad deal but that's how it is. Keep up the good work and post those peak time speeds when you get them :o

Demand to know what is being done about it and when, and don't hang up until you get somewhere.

I spoke with 3 different people, and told them all about you guys, your different towns/areas, and how we all have the same problem, and they were either playing stupid, or there aren't many calls being put into them. These particular techs were from a West Des Moines call center.

I asked repeatedly to speak with his supervisor, or someone who could explain to me why during the only hours I'm home to use my service, I only get 1/10 at best of what I pay $60+ a month for. He remained calm and helpful, putting me on hold several times to go speak with "his superior's".

The first time he came back and told me that "they" had looked at my node and weren't seeing any behavior that would explain my bad speeds. They wanted to schedule a tech out - I said no, and explained how I've already had two techs out in less than 2 weeks, and I explained how they stated my equipment and signal levels were very good, and how close I was to the node (I could throw a rock to it from my porch).

After some more discussion, I was placed on hold again, while he was talking to his superior's again. He came back after 5-7 minutes and this time agreed that there was an overloading problem, and that they were working to fix it. I asked what exactly they were doing, when this work was being started/completed, etc. After saying he couldn't give me any answers to those questions, I again asked to speak with someone who could.

I was placed on hold again, after which I was told again that I could not speak with his manager at the current time, but that he could fill out a “call back sheet”, and that someone would call me as soon as they were able. (Yes I'm skeptical too). By this time I had been on the phone for almost 2 hours, so I agreed, and stated that I could be reached ANY time, and didn't care if it was 2 in the morning.

I don't expect to get a call back. But if I don't – I do plan on calling again and doing this same routine again tomorrow until I get some answers. If I have to cancel their service I will. I might as well pay $40 for DSL, at least I'd get 2mbps down when I'm home to use it. We did apparently get one month free service for last month. But I'm still doubting it'll actually get taken off our bill.

Sorry for the huge post – I'm more or less just venting. If you've called in the past week about this slowness in North Iowa during prime-time, please post here or let me know.

Speeds as of 8PM Monday night:
Download Speed: 443 kbps (55.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 459 kbps (57.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Vonage is not the issue, sometimes the thing works fine.

It sounds like a LOT of people in the area have the same issue I do (crappy crappy speed after 4PM). It would be nice to get the new modem going but without my reg number I cant do it. I cant find the paperwork they gave me back in 2001, it was ATT @Home then so I don't even think it would have a reg number.
