Skype works perfectly on the road - and I'm not to about to lug my phone adapter to call back home from the UK -

On top of that I use Gizmo project which uses the jabber protocol for communication and I am able to cross talk between networks within the VOIP client. Livejournal has also done this and I have no problem contacting between networks.

Skype is like a VoIP provider that isn't. It supports no standards and ties you to a desk!
