 | Everest in South KC Just got Everest's "Ultimate Family Pack" for 99 bucks a month, with NO CONTRACT...EVER...well until they make it a new rule. Young guy came over and looked at the previous setup (Time Warner). I have the entire house wired back to one point in the basement with a single coax splitter. Have a network of computers, wired and wireless. Kid was kinda' impressed with the cable installs and the network setup.
Swapping out the old modem with the new one took a bit, because the kid had to call the "Center" twice to get them to activate the thing, but finally did. New cable box with all regular HBO included in package (no HD stuff). One cool feature about Everest, and I know you can but 3rd party devices, is that the Cable box and the phone service are integrated in that caller ID shows up on the screen, I like to call this "the ultra lazy add-on" for those too damn lazy to grab the phone to see who's calling. I digress...
Did a few connection speed tests. Some from dslreports.com and some random ones. One particular site I like is www.speedtest.net, they have a flashy interface, but nice none the less. Did some tests and found that my 5 Mbps is actually more like 7 Mbps. That's right my speed is FASTER than advertised!! Guess its not capped on the top end as of yet, that or their just aren't a lot of people signed up yet and I have a great run of the node.
So to all the ney sayers, Everest is a good service and up and coming. I think they will just get stronger with there prices (meaning more competitive) and services in the time to come. Good wiring is the base for all communication be it copper for DSL and the such to fiber. Good wires mean good service. So if you think the speeds aren't all that great have them drop the line from the pole and put in a new one. Start from their and you will see results. |
