2 edits | 20Mbps plan DOES NOT have a 40GB CAP. Its UNLIMITED. The 20Mbps plan DOES NOT have a 40GB cap. Only the 10Mbps plan has a 40GB cap. I have had the 20Mbps plan since it was released and tech support was clueless if their is a cap or not. Took about 2 hours on the phone for them to determine that there is no cap on the 20Mbps tier and if you look on their website it reflects as such (with only the 10Mbps listed with a cap). I upload about 3TB per month and they know I do and there is no problem. The 50Mbps plan with it being faster will probably be the same as the 20Mbps plan with no cap.

| | | 50Mbps plan 189.95 with bundle and 259.95 without bundle Just so you know that 3TB per month uploaded is not pirated stuff so I have no risk of the FBI, MPAA, or RIAA breaking down my door. I am just taking advantage of the connection.
I just got off the phone with a Surewest Rep and it seems that if you have at least two other services (TV,Phone,Cell?) the 50Mbps plan is only $189.95 per month. They don't have a lot of details yet but the rep is pretty sure that the 50Mbps plan will be unlimited like the 20Mbps plan that I currently have. I will probably try it out for one month at the $189.95 rate to get a taste of 50Mbps/50Mbps out of my home but it's doubtful that I will be able to afford $100 more per month (currently pay $89.95 for 20Mbps) long term.

Lesson time.
Surewest has been and always will be a RBOC. Surewest is Roseville Telephone Company.
Another company actually started the fiber to the home, WinFirst. It was a Denver Based company, I believe, back in 1999/2000. It went under big time because it's model, while appealing, was too expensive. Roseville Telco company purchased the bankrupt company and then changed their name to Surewest.
So, why would they go to SF?
Further, in the history.. it goes a little more. Jones Intercable was the cable company in Roseville back in the late 90's. Both Comcast (the first round) and Roseville Telephone wanted to buy Jones Intercable. Comcast won the bid and got the system. There was a huge fight over the Roseville territory as well as the northern Sacramento area. Both Roseville Telco and Comcast wanted to cross the county line.
When comcast got the bid for Jones, Roseville looked for another entry into the Sacramento area and WinFirst was it. Now the competition is on.
At one time, there were 5 providers for video in Sacramento.. in some parts, there was 6.
SacCable/ComcastAT&T/Comcast DirecTv Dish Microwave TV Service Surewest/WinFirst and an over builder in some parts of the Arden area.
Bundle that with the fierce regulations in Sacramento, it's no wonder why the competition is hot. The Sacramento area is also one of the jewels in Comcast's crown. It's a very profitable system and they aren't going to give it up anytime soon.
Surewest's 50/50 tier... and their 20/20.. their going to sit back and watch Surewest drive themselves into bankruptcy again. -- "Wipe out the national deficit over night... Tax the stupid!" - about 50 gMail invites available. PM if you'd like one.

| | | | | | Re: 20Mbps plan DOES NOT have a 40GB CAP. Its UNLIMITED. I work for SureWest and as far as I know there isn't a cap on the 20Mbps or 50Mbps. To the poster who said that SureWest will go the way of Winfirst you are wrong. Winfirst went bankrupt because they were expanding too fast and tearing up the streets when they were laying the network.
We have been able to provide 50Mbps for the longest time. We can do up to 100Mbps. There is no equipment change at all. If you are getting our FTTH you can recieve any speed we dictate. All someone has to do is set the speed for your port which can be done from the office.
