Re: Rope / tether

So where exactly does one purchase a piece of rope or other tether 63 thousand feet long?
Head on down to your local Ace Hardware or Tru-Value.

The stratellites are NOT tethered. Sheesh, the amount of mis/disinformation in threads talking about blimpband is astounding. It is a blimp, not a kite.

This is the way these threads usually go:

Won't they hit jets?

What about the Hindenburg?

What if someone shoots it?

We are not technologically advanced enough to fly a balloon.

All of which are of course stupid ignorant comment/questions.

As for propulsion, I have considered that too. I would think there would probably be a mix of propellers, and compressed air. Surely you could use solar power to store air (as little as there is up there) to use when needed. I always wondered if Ion propulsion would work up there?

As for the cost, these are estimated for what the cost would be now. After the initial deployment and further study, of course the costs will come down.
