I'm not sure what you mean by "20k+ from CO", unless you're referring to feet from the CO. Unless you control the San Andreas Fault, I doubt changing your VPI/VCI will move you closer

If you have connectivity today, I don't advise changing yet. It is my understanding that pre-existing circuits were not changed to the new VPI (Virtual Path Identifier), and therefore required no reconfiguration on behalf of the users. Of course if you change it now and lose connectivity, you can always change it back to the old settings and hope all goes well.
