Come to think of it, Gordo, you're right. But the only way I can think of that coax is used to carry electricity is when you use an amplifier (or multiswitch with DirecTV), you use coax to connect the power supply at an electrical outlet to the actual amp unit.

Even if you plugged one of those amplifier power supplies into a cable going to the modem, those power supplies only put out 12 volts. I really don't think that would be enough to cause this scenario.
