Rxdoxx : Tried Anapod, nope.

Problem seems to be that ITunes is Absolutely, unequivocally, a demanded requirement to get this ipod to do anything.

Read the tutorials... all I see is Itunes stuff.

As soon as the Ipod is plugged in the USB port on my computer, a red slash/circle appears on the Ipod (with the words do not disconnect) and I can do nothing with the Ipod until I remove it from my system. At that point, Ipod's menu re-appears.

Tutorials say that Itunes should be triggered by this connecting process, but I am not going to allow quicktime to install on my system (unless sandboxed) and the sandbox installation fails with ITunes complaining that it cannot get server rights on my system... not sure why, probably because it is sandboxed and cannot execute a kernal hook on its own, but that is just a guess from experience).

SO I've hit a dead end here. Apparently this version on Ipod is configured to only leave its sleep/restricted mode with a wake-up call from ITunes alone.
What a work of monopolistic pasture patties.
--
To be on a pedestal is to be in a corner

Rxdoxx : Update, can't get IPod server (ITunes component)to initialize while installing it in a sandbox. I guess g-kid is out of luck, since I have no desire to try to delete/kill quicktime other stuff.
If he is very persuasive, I may use an uninstaller to monitor the install from the start so I can document and un-do all the changes, but looks like I'll just convert things to MP4 and store them on his drive until he flies back home and can have friends (who have them) get him up and running.
Knowing what I know now, I would have tried to talk him into another brand of system, but that is a moot point now.
--
To be on a pedestal is to be in a corner

Rxdoxx : Could belong in a more technical forum, but answers here usually come quick :) so starting here.

Wife just gave one of her g-kids an IPod video for Christmas.
He wants some of my files to watch on the plane home.
I can plug it in my system (USB) and get the files to his HD, but can't find them on the HD.
Also I copied a yam-win folder over, and can't find that either.

Total noob with this stuff.
Used SUPER video converter to change an avi to what they called IPod video file (converted to .mov), can't find that file copied on his IPod either.
Been reading and trying to learn, but there is something I'm just not seeing.
And help or a link to a tutorial for media not from IPOD is appreciated. Thanks.
--
To be on a pedestal is to be in a corner
