Your fine print could be different from those I have seen, but in all that I have seen the contract period is for two years. What they are saying is that after two years, you will start to be billed at the normal current rate for services. They want to clarify that while you have to stay with the plan for two years once you sign up, that special rate does NOT continue after the 24 months. I'm sure some custoemrs would assume that they retain the triple play rate beyond the two years, and that two years is merely the minimum commitment. In reality, it is also the maximum length. This gives Comcast control of what special rate, if any, they want to offer in two years time, or at the very least, their customers would have to resign for two more years to retain a special rate. I calculated what it cost for two phone lines hooked up to DV and it wouldn't be much cheaper than what I'm paying Verizon. Plus I'm really interested in getting FIOS when it comes to my area, so I really don't want to go through the hassle of signing a two year contract with Comcast and then having to cancel.

Comcast should do like Cablevision does and offer Double Play offers, which drastically reduce your bill. Or even better Triple Play offers, that after the first year still give you large savings.

What you have to do is weigh the price of the offered package against what you would pay for what you actually wanted (for example, the Sports Tier is just a $4.99 package a la carte so I'm sure it doesn't have a major impact on the package price) ...however, to get Digital Phone if you do not really want it just because its all cheaper together would not make this package a bargain for you).

Now beyond that yes if you move into another market that isn't served by Comcast you must pay a pro-rated amount of no more than 150 bucks. So if you kept service for exactly one year and moved into a market not served by Comcast you must pay 75 bucks as a cancellation fee. Also if you really are moving outside of a Comcast market sometimes they will waive the cancellation fee but of course we cannot promise that.

Also say after a year you move into another Comcast market but this specific market doesn't offer this specific bundle deal. Well in that case one of two things will occur.

1. The new Comcast market will just let your deal continue while still not offering their existing customers this deal. So in this case its as if you never moved.

2. If they don't want to let you finish out your contract they will just cancel your contract and start billing you their normal new customer promo. They will not charge you a cancellation fee of any amount if they don't want to honor the contract. The reason for this is that your signing a contract with Comcast and not just Comcast in xxxxx market so if one Comcast area doesn't want to honor it and you are willing to honor your end of the contract they cannot charge you the cancellation fee as they cancelled your contract of their own free doing not yours.

I was not planning to switch, and a sweet, just-about-right-priced deal like this (hopefully with some additional initial discount for signing up) will be all I need to upgrade from my Adelphia pricing ($130ish for 8/768 with all the channels but no phone line) to the top plan ($159) and even do away with my Vonage ($25ish) line :)
