So far:
No USB capability
No standby switch
Different firmware than the 5100, 5101 & 5120
Same specs though

I can't see any specs for a standby or see one in any of the pics.

I would have to say, in all my dealings with Moto's, the 5100 and 5101 seem to be the best. 5120's once the firmware was fixed I guess is about as good, but it just got off on the wrong foot with me. (I said "got off"!)

My guess for the removal of the USB connection on the 5102 would be because of the speed limitation of 12 Mbps. Once they up the speeds, everyone with an old PC or with a bad NIC hooked up via USB would be calling in bitchin' about how they aren't getting their speeds. But it was nice for diagnosing computer issues.

I would agree with the reason for eliminating the USB. I can only guess why they eliminated the stand-by. I know the stand-by option could occasionally lock-up on customers causing no connectivity. I do not understand why they would want an internal power supply. That doesn't seem logical.

It's probably too late to embrace the SB5120. I would bet that the SB5120 will be phased out in the near future. Besides the SB5102, there is another model on the horizon.

Also the old TJ615 before that, though they didn't last very long.

And don't forget Com21. What was that model? 1110x?

As for eliminating the standby, my only guess was because numerous times I've gone to customner's houses to press a button just because it got bumped or because it switched over during power outages.

I have heard the same thing from local tech's.
There are many who rent the SB5100&SB5120 that don't know about the button and hit it while dusting or just moving the modem. Its really hard to see if you don't know its there.

I didn't even think of the obvious: "customer unawareness". LOL!
