Yeah so I had all four wisdom teeth taken out Wednesday and I've been bored outta my mind. Vicodin is killing the pain but not the boredom so I decided to paint my former black and silver Toshiba Satellite black and yellow. See attached pictures.

Looks great. How did you manage to paint it without getting paint on/in things it shouldn't be in?? How did you get paint to bond (primer/etch etc.)?

Yes, I would also like to know how you painted it. I'm guessing you took it apart, then painted and let dry, then put back together. And for the logos and stuff you put tape over them?

Thanks for the replies and kudos yall, I appreciate it!

As far as painting it I did disassemble the entire laptop. I've disassembled it before to replace the wrist/palm rest as it had worn out so I am familiar with disassembling this model laptop.

The laptop piece with the speakers I primed with automotive primer but it turned out horrible. I don't like glossy looks on plastics and prefer a flat look and it turned out glossy because of the primer filling the ridges and gaps in the plastic. I sanded that piece again and tried my best to paint it and in the end it turned out ok.

The top of the monitor and the palm rest I separated from the rest of the laptop by removing the screws and then masked off with blue painter's tape that you might see in houses the areas I didn't want paint to adhere to. Logos and buttons such as the mouse buttons and power button I covered with blue painter's tape and then used an exacto knife to trim it up.

The palm rest and monitor top I didn't prime nor sand but washed in warm, soapy water and let dry then painted with Krylon Fusion for plastics that I picked up from Autozone.

I put about ten coats of Krylon Fusion yellow over two days. The third or fourth coat I sanded the pieces with 1500 grit sandpaper and the seventh or eighth piece I sanded with 2000 grit wet sandpaper, only lightly though to get out and bugs and debris that stuck to it. Between EVERY coat I washed in warm, soapy water.

Yesterday I picked up Krylon clear coat and put five coats of clear coat on all pieces, then let dry for 12 hours. Recommended that the pieces dry 24 hours however.

Krylon Fusion for plastics bonded directly to the plastic and other paint with no problem at all. This was the first time I've used this brand of paint and will no longer use any other type, it works great!

Here I was expecting a disaster, but that actually looks pretty good

I'm not crazy about the colour, but it really looks like you did a great job painting it

Believe me... I'm exocet's girlfriend... when he called to tell me he was painting it, which was two days after he got his wisdom teeth out while he was on vikaden, I had very little faith. When I actually saw it though, it looked GREAT! He really did a good job with it. (sometimes being a perfectionist pays off!)

I remember getting my wisdom teeth pulled out. I was pretty into Counter Strike at the time and the Vicodin messed up my game.

Like any true geek I ditched the pills and used the game as pain relief Looks beautiful though, great job!

The Toshiba BumbleBee

I have used the Krylon paint for painting PC Cases. That best stuff out there. I just wish they had some more colors.

Ditto! I'd like to also, but there is no way I could get it to come out this well!
