Maybe that explains why I upload at full speed but only get a 400byte/second download...

Yep, if I upload but cap to say, 50% of my total upload so I can still do my normal tasks, I receive crap for download speed.

BT is nice in theory, but it sucks on an asymmetric connection. I hate it when I have to use it.

But this way you can still get in trouble for spreading copyrighted content.

Now people can download as much copyrighted content as they want, with the protection of usenet and the price of bittorrent. It's win win!

I upload at 2/3 of my 768kbit upload max. That's enough to get me close to max capacity (3mbit) down on popular torrents. Even with less popular files, I rarely get less than what I give.

I'm not sure if it made much difference but, under transfer options in Azureus, I upped the "Max number of connections per torrent default" setting significantly. I rarely dl more than one or two files at a time... so I wanted to use as much resources on those files as possible. See »www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Ad···settings

The default per torrent is 70. The global default is 300. IIRC, I set the per torrent to 250 and the global to 500. THe additional overhead is worth it (I think) and my aging computer is not particularly laggy because of it either.

I have my client set to upload at 40 KB/s even though I max out around 90 KB/s upload (768 Kbps upstream). On a few particular torrents, I've actually achieved speeds of 1.1 MB/s (megabytes, not bits) which pretty much maxes out my downstream speed.

Ever since I replaced my Westell WireSpeed modem with a SpeedStream modem, that problem has gone away. Apparently, the new SpeedStream modem can optimize for ACK packets, and that mitigates slow surfing.

Yeah, it's starting to piss me off.. I'm at 94% on a torrent, and my speeds dropped to 0-3kB/s wtf.. There are like 500+ seeds and double the downloaders..

It's weird how my upload is great though..
