| reply to The Jake7 They appear to be in BEFSRU31 V1.39.1 too!
Be aware that turning them on will drop and re-aquire your IP, so if you were trying to find out how long you can keep an IP address, you will be changing. -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

For some people who are interested in the workings of this router its quite helpful, others will find it useless. -- McLarenF1 -- can I have one please pretty please? |

Re: Hidden Features in BEFW11S4 Firmware v1.39.2 Too bad it doesn't show what the router is actually stopping. |

This should clear things up. »www.btinternet.com/~duncan.jaunc···gth.html
Basically Japan gets 14 channels. Each channel works on just a different frequency in the range of 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz
So.. Adjusting this to Japan would give you the full range allowing you to tweak your wireless connection just a bit so that you can maybe find a better signal... Kind of like on your home cordless phone, if the signal's fuzzy find a new channel that works better.
I've changed this on my BEFW11S4 router with a WPC11 PCMCIA card and haven't had any troubles.. I'll need to do some further testing to see if it's really worth changing.. Although, it is kinda cool to say you have all 14 channels. =) |

Bad idea. whether you agree or disagree with the way the frequencies are allocated there is a reason for it. As soon as you step outside the allocated frequency ranges you could be stepping on some other type of communication.
Even if there is no problem immediately the FCC could come after you for broadcasting in a reserved frequency range. Even worse you neighbors house could burn down because you stepped on the emergency radio band used by you local fire station.
There are 11 channels allocated in the US, hopefully that is enough to get one that is acceptable.
Of course if you are in Japan go ahead and use the allocated ranges. |
