Re: Difference?

No.. I think you went into it too far. My point was that it sounded like you were making "tivo" out to be a hero in DVR software.

I was trying to point out that the hardware has much to do with the success of any software that runs on it. Just like the windows operating system. Put XP on some machines and it crashes and looks buggy. Put it on another machine with better hardware and it runs with out a lick of problems.

Personally, I do realize that the software on the moto boxes by iGuide is not the greatest. It works for my use. However, I personally enjoy the guide on my Media Center 2005 systems MUCH better.

Personlly.. I'm not a huge fan of Tivo either. MCE2005 is great as it connects to the internet live for extended data, art, and other information.

perhaps my words were a bit forgiving. next time i will be sure to say "inferior" instead, to be sure to make you happy.

by calling tivo's software superior, it is not to say that this iteration is necessarily going to run perfectly.

It is to suggest that Tivo's software is superior in function, not necessarily form or technicality. Please note I did say tivos superior INTERFACE and not simply superior "software". Interface was the qualifying word here.

Anyone who has used a standalone tivo, or one of the older direct tv tivo's will undoubtedly say that they prefer both the interface and functionality of tivo software over the poorly carried out iguide, or for us in Washington, the buggy, and at times, infuriating Microsoft TV Foundation.

Let us also not forget that the motorola boxes are using a very similar operating platform as the series 3 tivos. They both share the same CPU, the primary differences being in the memory/ram loadout, and accessory packages. The motorola boxes have less memory than a series 3 tivo.

In any case, I am sure you *knew* what I meant when i said superior. But as usual, you thought it in your best interest to drive down to the unlikely interpretation and choose to accept that as the message i was posting.

Your choice i suppose. For everyone else: I am NOT saying that the TIVO software will necessarily have less bugs/run more reliably than iguide/mstv, I am simply stating that, if past experience can be beleived, most people find the tivo interface, and the tivo functionality to be superior to that of iguide/mstv

Tivo's "superior software"... Interesting... the software is only going to be as good as the hardware which is only going to be as good as the software.

What if Tivo's software is pushed out to consumers that request it and once on the box, it turns out to be buggier than the current software?
