| Promised??
"We've been promised a Comcast and Tivo integration for quite some time, but the deal was uh -- time shifted"
This thread cracks me up. Where were you "promised" anything? This announcement was made at the end of 2004 beginning of 2005. That was JUST the announcement that a partnership was going to be formed to allow Tivo software to the Comcast consumer over existing hardware.
Tell me, when has something like this been done before where a product which is normally produced hardware and software wise from the same company is going to be offered as a software only push to existing hardware? It's been 2 years since an announcement was made that a deal had been in the works to make this happen.
The first line in the paragraph above, I assume by Karl, states that "we've been *promised*... for *quite some time*..." What the heck are you expecting? That when an announcement is made that it should be produced in 30 days? how about 6 months? Maybe 12?
I'm beginning to think that some people around here have NO clue on what it takes to make something like this happen. It's more than just software on a box. It's Tivo, which normally makes software for hardware that is already their specs, and Comcast, a company that has MANY components in place to make the entire system work.. working together. There's the motorola settop hardware itself, there's CSG, Cabledata and Icoms billing systems that have to come into play.. there are box controllers.. etc.
Look at how long it took for the new guide to get pushed out to the non DVR boxes... AND THEY WERE ALL MOTO BOXES TO BEGIN WITH! That software had to be pulled back as well for bugs.. and I repeat.. the guide we see today was ALREADY ON MOTO BOXES! In order to push it out to non-DVR moto equipment, there were issues that took almost 12 months to correct.
I don't get it.. first of all, you were NOT promised anything for "quite some time"... show me one piece of evidence where you were "promised" and "when" it would be released. Second, what would you like? Another rush to market product so you have more fuel to add to your fire?
Really Karl... there is a reason why some things have no firm dates... if you knew ANYTHING about programming and bringing products to market, you'd know now WHY many corporations don't like to give a firm date at the initial press release. They also normally always say things like "hope to see" and "potentially available to the market.." however, with that, I can see how you would turn that into a definite promise. And, when a delay is announced, I think that COMPLETELY erases any previous launch date.
So, you should re-think how you post your bias and out of line "news" items. -- "Wipe out the national deficit over night... Tax the stupid!" - about 50 gMail invites available. PM if you'd like one. |
