thender2 posted : I am an idiot myself in many areas. I'm a mechanic's wet dream, I know nothing about web hosting hosting or modern politics, and would probably not care about any issues effecting any of these areas. Here I am a dumb, educated consumer, not a hobbyist or a tweaker, or someone who has an semi-educated view on the subject.

Consumers won't care, or even notice DRM until it bothers them, and by then it'll be everywhere. It goes for everything. In digital content land, there are far more consumers than other two personality types, which is the point. It's not just people who aren't computer whizzes who won't notice it, it's anyone who is not really going to look into it. It's a boring topic, so I don't blame people for buying whatever and not caring.
--
The Problem With Music.

Our Rationale

Time to rewrite the DMCA.

Jason Levine posted : Really, nothing. But even with DRMed music, all it takes is one person to crack the DRM and upload the unprotected music to a P2P group. Joe Sixpack might not give it to his friend directly, but his friend would still be able to get a copy.

All DRM does is place a speed bump in the path of the pirates (not a road block like the record companies would like to believe).

Putting DRM on a CD to stop Internet piracy only winds up as a headache for the person who legitimately buys the content and wants to use it in legal manners.
