I don't know from personal experience because A: I don't have a need for a smartphone yet and B: I live in Canada and the wireless providers rape us for data access. $100 for 100MB no joke. But from what I've read a lot of places don't have 3G and all the people on slashdot saying they have the latest 3G smartphones say it's worse batterylife than the iPhone. I'm talking about it not even lasting a whole day without the battery dying. That's not really something I see Apple wanting to produce. Someone said on slashdot the Japanese phones are quite large compared to the little ones we have over here and I bet it has to do with the battery problem. They need a larger battery for 3G and Apple is all about slim form factors and elegant designs.
