Need help with building a silent PC

I haven't built a computer in close to 7 years. I've had my present computer (a Dell) for almost 3 years now and I'm looking to replace it. I haven't been keeping up with components so I have no idea what to look for when buying the parts I need to build a silent PC. Here's what I do know though. I know I want the following:

Intel Core Duo 2 processor
2GB RAM
250GB + Hard Drive (silent)
High end video card

I mainly use the computer for programming and using Microsoft Flight Simulator.

What cases/fans/psu should I consider? If this has been asked before then please accept my apology and I will do a search.

I've been considering an imac since they are so quiet but I think I want a little more power and upgradability. The macs are super quiet and that's what I'm looking for. My current Dell sounds like a jet plane taking off.

Thanks for the help!

This is a great forum and all, and I don't want to get off course from the topic ...... but I wonder what hardware is noisy these days?

7 years ago most were noisy - most PCs off-the-shelf are whisper quiet now. My wifes, new dell at work - I had to look for lights when the screen blacked out. It was silent.

I guess for people to offer a fully authoritative opinion, they would have to max the PC's resources. (to be sure)

I bought a computer from the guys at www.endpcnoise.com, and it is very very quiet...hard drive is the noisest part and that is very quiet.

ANyhow, you can at least get an idea from their site what components they are using, and they do have some completely fanless options.

I am impressed with the silence and energy efficiency of this power supply.
