| You can bet Apple will pay for this blunder As if to demonstrate how clueless Apple is... Not only have they raised the price they will now pay for the rights to use the expression "iPhone", - if they even get too, they also forgot to get the phone approved by the FCC so they can't sell it in the U.S. anyway. In the PC industry this is known as the blind leading the clueless. Apple fanboys will still be lined up to pay thru their arse for such foolishness, but Cisco will make Apple pay heavily for their indiscretions. |

Man, wish I could have a chunk of THAT cluelessness They're entering an arena where there are many entrenched players that have been building phones for a long time. Their execution on this needed to be perfect if they are to have any chance of breaking into the market, and so far, they've failed to file with the FCC and they're now in a trademark dispute with Cisco, which means they won't be able to sell it until they've settled that or change the name of it. 1: GSM only (Cingular is not my carrier of choice, and I'm not switching carriers just for the latest whiz bang gadget).
2: Five hundred clams is a LOT of money to lay out for a "locked" phone and a 2 year contract.
3: The keyboard. Give me a Treo or a Blackberry any day over something with what early reviewers are saying has "no tactile feedback"
4: And, flame me all you want folks, I'm a Mac user myself, but anything revision "A" from Apple almost always has it's, how shall I put it, idiosyncrasies... -- Never ask what sort of a computer a guy drives. If he's a Mac user, he'll tell you. If not, why embarrass him? -Tom Clancy |

 | reply to Titus Pullo Cluelessness? They made an agreement in the 80s that said they can't use the name Apple in the music business. Since that is where Apple is going, I would expect a name change in the future. Now that's cluelessness. |

Oh wait, there is no product to launch, just a demo, and uncertainty about its FCC approval status and its name. And a keynote address designed to inflate the stock price. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. Save the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus! |

they also forgot to get the phone approved by the FCC so they can't sell it in the U.S. anyway. My guess is that Apple took this route deliberately, in order to avoid details of the iPhone leaking out through the FCC OET EA database.
