| major benefit of doubt here as someone who has personally cleaned off hundreds of computers of worms, trogens, and viruses, I would gladly testify under oath that such a thing can easily happen, and someone innocently looking at an appropriate sight, can be hyper jumped away and have their machine taken over and filled with porn on the hard drive and screen. I'm amazed this case even made it past a grand jury and had merit to go to trial. just goes to show you how computer illiterate our legal officials still are. at my office one of the worst cases of porn infestation I've seen was of a Charlie Church type guy with 5 teenage children that I have known for 10 years, his favorite TV show is "Seventh Heaven" and there is no way he'd troll for porn even as a joke, and certainly not at work for that matter. Thankfully his machine exploded with porn in a private office, not a public library or school, or a bunch of republican church ladies would have thrown him in the pokey and lost the key. | |

The links she supposedly clicked on may have been camouflaged - I've had this happen many times, both with intrusive porn and with other iffy sites (gambling, drugs from overseas). The tag (html) isn't the same as the URL! I've also had the experience of one of those 'loops' - it literally put up ~100 windows before I could stop it - and I'm a programmer and I wasn't freaking out at the time.
This whole case is a stupid crock. Based on what is in that article, the charges are simply unprovable - what, did they put a bunch of southern Baptists on the jury? What a waste of time and resources - there are real criminals out there fgs. You can start with the producers of porn sites with intrusive code. | |
