| Bigpaddy_Irl I dont think you made that link with the 12dbi internal antenna on the lil 8186 more likely with a 19dbi or possibly a grid using the N connector version of the 8186
Wisp I use all 8186's and for me the longest link I have made with the lil 12dbi antenna is about 3Km as for reliable I'd say its as reliable as any other antenna out there. Personally I would recommend to use the 8186 with the internal 12dbi antenna within a 1-2km range and it will work work well beyond that or with LOS issues I use the 8186's N connector version and attach it to a 15 or 24dbi grid then 16Km ranges are achievable.

| Re: HighGain 8186HP I have one that is in use with non-LOS, but it's around 5 blocks away from the AP.
ajayr, Keep in mind these things don't have a very low receive sensitivity..(-84) -78 is not going to give you a very high fade margin. And more then likely you will lose that client every now and then. Or it will switch data rates a lot.

| Re: HighGain 8186HP I have one customer whom I have the unit pointing into a bunch of evergreen trees about 1 km away. Behind it is the access point. Signal is -80, his download speed is 1200k. He uses it for his xbox. I have never heard a peep out of him since, never a problem. The access point is roughly 3 miles away. It still astonishes me today! | |

| Re: HighGain 8186HP I have 1 shooting through the customers exterior wall and they are 1.68 miles from the tower. It is setting on top of the desk. They didn't want any holes drilled in to the new house or nothing mounted onto it. the signal is -65 on cpe and -62 on tower. I haven't heard a peep from them since I installed them over 3 months ago. | |

| said by 40883644 :Rich is leaving DSLR either temporarily, or permanently. Perhaps some of You do not realize why Rich is saying this?.Out of all the vendors in this forum, I would say that Rich is the most active, with Caleb and Hal from Deliberant running a close second. To be a vendor AND a poster in this forum is a tough situation. This forum can be heaven and hell for someone in their position, as each day information is posted about their respective products. Some of it is good, as it could be praise, giving kudos for a new feature etc. Some of it is bad, and some of it is just misinformation, as the subject posted could be wrong, opinionated, presented with malice or just a plain old out right attempt to make a vendor look bad because of something that happened in the past?. When the aforementioned happens, it is very hard to try and bite Your tongue?, especially if the information is just crap or 100% wrong. It is a fine line though trying to get the correct info. out there without making it seem as though it is a sales pitch!. The moderators also have a very tough time deciding what is and what isn't a sales pitch. I feel that they are wrong sometimes?, but it is a tough job, and the rules must be enforced. If they didn't?, this place would be one big spam board with nothing but sales pitches for info. and we all know what happens when we rely solely on the advice of a single vendor..................? Mark my words, almost every single OEM out there reads this forum?. They may not post, but they do pay attention to what is being said. It is a great place to keep up with competitors and their new offerings and the wants and needs of the end users that post here. I mean, lets face it, the guys and gals who post here are the ones that climb roofs and towers at 2AM trying to fix a radio that puked, and we are the ones who know what features suck and which ones are a godsend?. I for one welcome vendor participation, as it gives me a chance to bounce questions off of the source, especially if it is a problem I am having. While I could pick up the phone and do it that way?, I sometimes prefer to do it here, that way all of us can learn from it and maybe I can save You the hassle of repeating something?. I guess my entire reason for posting this was to try and make all of You see the "Big Picture", so that no one gets discouraged and the information keeps flowing. We all make mistakes, and so be it, as we are human and that part of this forum will never change. If something negative happens?, just brush it off and keep going!. -- »www.wavecrazy.net Join WISPA today! »www.wispa.org/ | |

| Its a shame Rich has to go... Nice words from Superdog (again, lol)...
Ok we ordered a small batch of 8186HP's 2xN-connector and 2xpanel (built in).
When i saw the size of the unit i though oh wow will this really work. I then read the above posts about the 3KM links..
Today we decided to test the little panel (12DB i think) built in unit to one of our tower sites.
We acheieved 1mb down and 385 up and the GREAT point to make is that the link distance is exactly 8 MILES!!!
This low priced unit worked the same if not better (with the added software functions) that our $300 radios..
Great kit and would certainly recommend it!
We havent even tested the N=connector versions yet.

I am sure it is comparable or even better than other 12dBi antennas but maximum outdoor range will depend more on radio TX/RX parameters.
