Yeah, I'd imagine that the ram could be the problem. IE7 probably sucks up more resources than Firefox thus needing more ram to operate efficiently...

Nothing to do with the problem, necessarily, but more RAM (512MB or 1GB) wouldn't hurt you any, regardless. 384MB is a little light.

Does it make any difference if you start IE in the "No Add-Ons Mode"?:

If problems persist try booting into "Safe Mode with Networking" and see if the problem still exists.

Hi,

I am on a cable modem, (Comcast). This afternoon, I wiped a drive and reinstalled XP SP2 on a PC. During the update process I allowed IE 7 to be installed. It is very very slow when I surf. Any ideas as to why? I should mention that I also installed the latest version of Firefox and it's as quick as a rabbit.

One more question. XP hesitates. At widely random times, (sometimes spanning several hours), the PC will be working great, but then it will suddenly hesitate for a period of about two minutes. I thought this was weird, so I reinstalled. Same problem.

I then loaded Ubuntu 6.06 as a dual boot. When I use Ubuntu, the OS never hesitates at all.

Any ideas?

Let me know if you need more info. It's a Compaq Presario P4 desktop, 2 GHz, with 384 MB RAM and the only services running in the system tray are the firewall (Kerio), the AV (AVG) and the Quick Start Launcher for Open Office 2.1.

Thanks!
