Re: Bandwidth Cable

You will have to make sure that Mediacom will adjust their TOS as it most likely restricts reselling the service. When you deal with a cable company also remember that they are new to the carrier grade ISP game when compared to the Bell's. We have private fiber from Charter and while the price is good.....we have had allot of ridiculous problems. We were completely dead for about 48 hours at one point due to a BGP config error at their NOC, as well as many other stupid issues. Long story short they violated their SLA within a couple months of my 5 year contract. With cable modem you also have possible RF issues.

According to my Medicom lady, You can't resell the coax service. You can however resell their fiber services. They only offer 5 meg cable service here. I would check with them if you are on a newer fiber to the home plan if that is what you have.

Hence my T-1 instead of them, I tried here also..

Hey thank you both for the replies. A little bit of new information there about Mediacom fiber. I can check on that on Monday.

I guess what I was saying is more like would we get caught? The reverse dns name entry shows something like ATT of course if you go to Airin the IPs trace to Mediacom. From what I can see there is no port 25 filtering. Of course you and I would know that it's a Mediacom connection but I think it would be unlikely if Mediacom would find out unless someone reported you.
Up to a certain scale on a small time micropop I know there must be wisps reselling these kind of circuits don't really expect anyone would admit it. Also not the most honest thing, although a good justification could be made about the morality of dedicated circuit costs Seems like the pricing model for legitimate bandwidth is set right at the point where the big guys always make the money and keep us little guys all struggling.

Hard to expect your end users to pay attention to your TOS/AUP when you yourself don't seem to understand one.

No way in hell would I use bandwidth to supply my customers that could be cut off any time!!! How do you go to a customer and explain it?

What he said!! You will have enough things going on without having to worry about your bandwidth.

There is NO justification to base YOUR business on reselling a connection that you do not have the RIGHT to resell. If you think the cost is too high then don't sign the contract. Many WISPs are able to provide service using lines that they can legitimately resell and some acutally make a profit!

There is no difference in this business, big guys always get a price cut!
