| mid-Kansas latency issues
I'm sort of at my wits' end here, as far as broadband is concerned. Back in September, my area (Fort Riley) started to get a large influx of new people as a division of soldiers returned to become our new garrison force. Ever since, Embarq's speed has grown steadily worse.
It used to be just a few hours of really bad latency a night during primetime.. then in October, they updated some equipment, and the problem went away for about, oh, three weeks. It started to get worse again, and at the moment, latency/ping times here on Fort Riley are too high for anything more than IMs and browsing graphics-nonintensive web pages past 4pm-ish on weekdays until around 3am, and most of the weekends, regardless of the hour.
I've called multiple times (understatement) about this, spoken to supervisors.. while Embarq has the most polite, informed tech people working for it I've had the pleasure of dealing with, the problem is just Not. Getting. Fixed. As of December 20th, there's now an official 'outage' in my area, and a 'team' of engineers is supposedly working on it.. yet there is still no update available as to when this issue will be resolved, either through Tier 1 or speaking to a supervisor. The supervisors have gone so far as to try and get me updates during the day, only to call me at home in the evening and be forced to admit that even they can't get any information.
Other than the standard tech support line, is there anyone else I can email or call to be squeaky about this? I'm an avid gamer, and having my primetime hours and weekends basically closed to me is galling.
Unfortunately, my only other option, living here on post, is Charter Cable for broadband. I was with them before. Rude tech support and office staff, extremely high prices, and service even worse than Embarq's current situation 24/7.
As an example, here's a tracert to dslreports.com from a few minutes ago - I'm supposed to be on a 1.5 meg down/384k up line. I can't even get to hop TWO without having massive latency.

Any advice anyone has about possible other people to contact about this would be greatly appreciated.

| If you had an influx of people move into your area, now on DSL, it will take a few months to add new equipment. Rest assured, if ping times like that are common, relief will come. Techs will continue to get calls and Area managers will pitch a fuss until it is fixed as it puts undue burden on everyone. Hang in there and you should see things clear up. Continue your calls to tech support and get credits for your troubles. | |
