who would you recommend calling for a projection? I've called Embarq's number for ordering and checking on broadband availability, but every time I ask for a projection I get at "hopefully soon", "probably within the next year", "I have no idea", or "well, your residence is listed as one to get a letter when it does become available..."
Are remote terminals easily identified? If so, what should I look for? |

If the Central Office is far away then it will be deployed via Remote Terminal. Where this RT might be is not public information, and the telcos won't usually tell you. They may tell you what their current projection is for when they plan on lighting it up. |

just for clarity, I don't have access to DSL...thus, why I'm *trying* to figure out where it may come from if it were to be deployed in my area; if it comes fro XXXXX-city, it'll take forever, and if it comes from yyyyyy-village, it might not be that long down the road... |

It's sort of difficult to say where your DSL is coming from, as you only supplied xxxxxx and yyyyyy. Your DSL might come from a remote, zzzzzz.
As to where any devices would be placed to enchance distance of DSL service, it depends on where your DSL comes froms, the cable route and type, your distance and of course, type of DSL supplied.
At the momemnt, IMHO, you're grabbing for answers that will not be known untill a latter date. Any information given now is a best guess only. |

Ok, I have a quick question: Where would my DSL service come from?
There's an Embarq CO that's quite a ways from me in XXXXX-city ; my phone number is an XXXXX-city phone number.
However, there's yyyyyy-village, which has a small Embarq brick building...Thus, where would my DSL service come from? XXXXX-city or yyyyy-village?
My area is just weird, I have a yyyyy-village address, but a xxxxx-city phone number.
Also, the max range on DSL is 18,000 feet, correct? What would be necessary to go past this? Remote Terminal? Repeater? If so, where would these be placed? |

I am 13,859 ft from the dslam with a solid 3 meg and on my other line which is amazingly is on 5 meg
both lines are solid.(2 different accounts) 15 year old copper  |

IDSL is ISDN but with both B and sometimes the D channel bonded to give you up to 144 kbps. It's very reliable and very expensive. It can go anywhere ISDN goes.
G.Lite is "splitterless" and is limited to 1536/512 due to the lower bin loading. It does not have any greater reach than an equivalent G.DMT setup at the same sync rate even though it's early promotional material claimed service out to 24,000 feet.
So you are both right and wrong.
Embarq uses G.DMT with RADSL (rate adaptive).
