Re: Range of DSL Types

just for clarity, I don't have access to DSL...thus, why I'm *trying* to figure out where it may come from if it were to be deployed in my area; if it comes fro XXXXX-city, it'll take forever, and if it comes from yyyyyy-village, it might not be that long down the road...

If the Central Office is far away then it will be deployed via Remote Terminal. Where this RT might be is not public information, and the telcos won't usually tell you. They may tell you what their current projection is for when they plan on lighting it up.

who would you recommend calling for a projection? I've called Embarq's number for ordering and checking on broadband availability, but every time I ask for a projection I get at "hopefully soon", "probably within the next year", "I have no idea", or "well, your residence is listed as one to get a letter when it does become available..."

Are remote terminals easily identified? If so, what should I look for?

Call sales. If they don't know then there probably is no projection.

As far as what they look like, I'm not exactly sure. There was one near my house in Orlando that was underground. All you could see was a door coming from the ground.

Ok, that's who I called, so it sounds like there truly isn't a projection.

Anyway, I'll post some pictures of some phone-equipment that is about a mile away from my house...hopefully someone will be able to tell me what, exactly, it is.
