Shenanigans

This is the biggest bullshit I've ever heard. Well, maybe not the biggest but it's in the discussion.

Essentially, Sarbanes-Oxley is about transparency in reporting. There is NOTHING in SOX that would compel a company to charge a fee instead of giving a product away. To use SOX as an excuse to charge people for a software patch is an outrage and an embarrassment.

Frankly, I would be less outraged if they just came out and said, "We will charge $5 for this patch", and leave it as that. You wouldn't like it, but at least they would be honest instead of coming up with some cockamamie, insulting bullshit.

Anyway, let's continue to make this a big deal. Hopefully they will back down the same way Verizon, Bell South, etc. backed down when they tried to charge that USF fee. Hey, stranger things have happened.

It's not in the legislation, it's in the implementing regulations.

Whatever. It's still garbage.
