I've not had any success at all on my PC with CapDVHS. It crashes every time I capture a HD stream. SD ones work fine. BTW I read something on digitalhome.ca that on the PC it pixelates a lot on PC. I've not had a problem with pixelation at all capturing on my Mac, whatever channels are not encrypted (from the list above) capture beautifully with no pixelation or dropped frames.

It seems to be troublesome on the PC. I've tried two different machines, both more than powerful, and CapDVHS crashed every time on HD streams.

On the Mac side however, it works great, both on a G4 1.42GHz Mac mini and my 2GHz Core Duo MacBook. I measured cpu usage on the G4 1.42 mini, and it's only 5-10% during HD stream capture, so its not intensive at all, so that suggests that you don't need a fast one at all. Just don't expect to play back those streams, because my G4 mini chokes big time on 720p or 1080i streams when trying to play them. I copy them over LAN and play on my PC.

Correct as long as you don't entend to sell or distribute it you should be okay. So that means no uploading it to YouTube or Google Video HiVolt!

Uhm depends on your gear. Back in the days when music videos were my thing and Leathal Productions was another ripper I never had a problem with pixelation on my PC.

HiVolt - it seems like you are having much more success with the Mac. I have posted all of my results on digitalhomecanada and with a PC the only channels from a 3250HD that don't suffer from massive pixellation are Discovery, CTV and Global. So there must be some issue with the drivers for the PC - similar results have been reported from Videotron in Quebec.

On the 8300HD I am only able to see recorded material - no live channels seems to work - if I remember correctly that applies to SD channels as well as HD.

No pixelation at all when using either of my Macs. The unencrypted channels I listed all capture flawlessly. And of course all the SD channels work fine as well.

Yeah, I'm sure you don't on a $500+ professional capture board.

Really?

My old card which is sitting here is a Pinnacle DV500 Plus, along with Adobe Premiere 6.5, etc cost me over $900 in its day. I use to have the RT2000 when it first came out (it cost me around $1200) but wanted the DV500 more as I didn't like the video card limitations have requiring to have both a Matrox video and capture card, not being able to upgrade the video card.

It was a pretty expensive hobby, and still is.
