 | Another SCREW YOU by the megacorps This isn't a surprise at all. Verizon is just a greedy corp, and is looking to get CASH for their taxpayer funded network. The citizens of Vermont, NH and Maine all paid for that network through higher fees over the last 100 years, and what do they get? Shafted, of course. Verizon isn't the 'good guy' here, Verizon is as all megacorps, the bad guy. I hope that the FCC denies this, and FORCES verizon to upgrade and provide services for ALL people in those states. Too often do the megacorps get away with their big corporate welfare checks, and screw the customer as a result. -- Stick it to the MAN. Support your local torrent sites. Proudly providing 100mb of upstream for all your TV, Movie, and MP3 needs. |

Broadband isn't a utility and having the government step in and "force" Verizon to upgrade will only put the cost off on more customers not located in ME, VT or NH. If you think those services should be upgraded invest your own money and go up there and lay the lines down a rural town where your ROI will be less than nothing. -- "I hate conservatives, but I really hate liberals." - Matt Stone »www.reason.com/ |

That Fairpoint is going to serve the customers in these areas instead of "bad guy" Verizon hardly implies they're being screwed. Whether a "megacorp" or mom and pop gas station, no buisness can be reasonably expected or be forced to offer services at a loss- to do so is the equivalent of government appropriation. Verizon likely had no intention of offering FIOS in these areas anyways.
Not that I expect anyone with a username "karlmarx" to be either a reasonable or objective person. |

They have raped the infrastructure of these 3 states and now are dumping them along w/ 3000 employees. I dont think the folks @ Fairpoint saw that the emperor had no clothes!!! VZ is not interested in ANYTHING except returning profits to the shareholders and they will run roughshod over EVERYONE to do it. I know Im taking it up the ass from VZ! |

 | reply to scrummie02 Pardon me but in today's technology laden world, broadband is fast becoming a necessity. It is supplied by none other than utility companies, so why do you not consider it such. Pay attention to the world around you pal. |
