I don't want to "rent" a movie and watch it on my monitor

I'll save it for my TV instead.
If you have a media PC then I guess this would be cool.
If they managed to stream 1080p or at least 1080i for movies then I might be in also.

Where's dadkins with his chime about the video store he goes to and gets any DVD he wants for $1? I must have read about it 4 or 5 times

With netflix, you are paying for dvd's mailed to you. Get them watch them on your pc or TV. The ability to download and watch on your pc (or tv if its hooked up) is just great bonus.

I switched from netflix to blockbuster a while ago. I loved netflix, but BB gives you more for the money. If you just compare renting 3 movies, they both arrive in your mail, and both have same selection. However, BB - evil as it is, also lets me take my movies to their store and walk out with 3 new rentals. There is no late fee if I return them in under a month from whey they were due back to the store... pretty reasonable. My store is not huge, but is big, and has great selection. All the pop movies, all the "old" pop movies, and lots of random movies I never look at. You can rent army of darkness if you want to. Finally, I also have 1 coupon per month I can print out and take to the store to get a free rental. Our BB store is close (maybe 1.5 miles) so we pass it frequently.

So, why would anyone choose netflix over BB?
1 - no good store nearby = lose of the benefit. Sucks for you, but don't say BB and flix are the same. Same for you but not for others.
2 - on principle, many people just don't like BB. Netflix on the other hand is breaking new ground. I'd rather give netflix my money and feel guilty for using BB, by I do prefer the opportunity to get so many more movies.
3 - BB website still not close to netflix. BB site is OK and functional, they finally have ajax and all that, but netflix multi-queue works better for any family with more than one movie watcher.
4 - Streaming Movies. Honestly, they have to make this free to compete. The other 3 reasons won't switch anyone. I don't like it [yet] because I don't have TV hooked up to my PC. My friend has HDTV hooked to his PC, and downloaded movies are great. I worry a bit about a streamed movie. Last thing you want is choppy internet affecting your movie. The other thing, streaming quality is NOT DVD quality. Don't kid yourself. I want dvd quality + surround sound, and I want it in my living room.

I would like to switch back from BB to netflix. I'm loving my BB service, but I like NF as a company. I hope their streaming thing works out. Maybe a year or two when I have HD and a fancy gaming console in my living room I'll switch over.
