bhorow join:2004-05-17 Forest Hills, NY | THis is a write off essentially Verizon is basically writing off customers.
Customer in Maine/NH are better serviced by Cable up there anyway. The New England Division of Time Warner is one of the better and stronger divisions. To do battle in Maine and NH is kind of silly.
Verizon has to focus on his core business which is The old Bell-Atlantic area- From New York to Washington DC, and Ohio.
Verizon must do battle in these areas, and in Texas. But must win the Bell-Atlantic region. Verizon would be unable to win in Maine and they realize that. Verizon has to be very focused right now or they can loose everything. If they loose don't gain enough market share for FIOS Verizon will be a pure Cell phone company. It could loose internet/and phone. Verizon still hasn't made enough progress, and the costs are looming. Just think if it take 4-6 hrs for a technician to do the install. Thats means there paying that technician almost $150.00 per install minimum. Thats not including equipment costs etc.. Verizon must come on big, and right now they just haven't done it.

They kept that name mainly due to legal issues in Wash. DC. -- support the Hunley

| | | | fair enough...ray smith was the king of rbocs with foresight in 96...
to be fair....and not wanting to be a troll...
bell atlantic = bell atlantic + nynex + gte east (ohio)
We're talking the same thing! Too many on this board seem to think Verizon is some magic entity against ma bell...I had to ask
Summary (for those ill informed): Verizon is a bunch of ma bell split offs SBC is a buch of ma bell split offs Cingular wireless is a company owned by ma bell split offs Verizon wireless is a company owned by ma bell split offs
for fun Verizon is Verizon and MCI SBC/Bell South/Cingular is ATT and ATT Sprint just sorta sucks and can't figure itself out Qwest is the old US WEST (last baby BOC) - not too desirable by anyone but will get acquired by one of the wo Comcast was small until they purchased ATT cable.
It's always more complicated than it seems...yet..bbr, which is allegedly the "clueful group" seems lacking in understanding. Maybe a faq is in order...one that speaks to the telco/cableco/wirelessco relations. A family tree of sorts. Who came from where and why are they where they are sort of....and a nice gravestone to the isp industry that proved the business model of internet access.

Anyway, NYC was bell Atlantic and I have old bills to show anyone to prove it.
I was meaning to say that they need to concentrate on the Bell atlantic region and OHIO...I wasn't implying that OHio was part of the bell atlantic region. Anyway, Verizon needs to focus there in order to make money.
Remember, Verizon isn't going to make money from small rural towns. Fios could be a great success or a pending disaster.
Remember what is going to happen faster people adopting FIOS or people dropping there phone service.
Verizon is in a must win situation in NY-Washington DC. If they can't get reasonable penetration, Fios will be a failure.
Everyone wants faster and faster internet, but the cost generated is substantial.
