 | Ideal Download Speeds in NYC (Please post your speed tests) I'm about 3200 ft. away from my CC (call center). Anyways I have the 6.0/768 package and my download speeds only top off at 5.0 MB. Is this ideal? Shouldn't it be around 5.5? Please list your speeds in NYC. |

1 edit | I have 3000/768 service and typically see about 2525 on the d/l and 610 on the upload. |
|
 | Something must be wrong for me then. |

|
 | There is typically 15-20% overhead associated with any ADSL connection. So on a 6000/768 package anything in the range of 4800/614 - 5100/650 is pretty good. |

It's around 10-12%, from ATM's ~9% plus TCP overhead's 2-3%.
For the OP: when I had 6M/768k from SE - ~1+ year ago - I got around 690-700kB/s from my NSP, according to Newsleecher's logs. --

 | Yes its around 13% before you account for distance, line condition, internal wiring, etc. If you were getting 690-700kB/s you were getting over 90% of your rated capacity which as you already stated is not going to happen. As I stated, on typical ADSL lines the vast majority of people are going to see between 80-85% of their rated line speed. |
|
 | reply to jesterekim1 I've had Speakeasy's 6.0/768 ADSL package for about 2-3 weeks. And after speed testing daily, my avg speed is around 5100/620.
Not bad... |

Try to interpret what you read before you hit the reply button: I said Newsleecher's log said that, so it's probably not so correct, let alone if I have only around 10% overhead it's not impossible to get very close to that.

PS: did mention I HATE THIS &*%$*Q@# shitty, craptastic quoting syntax of this forum engine??? |
