| [Connectivity] Punished by Comcast for cancelling !
Ok, so it's a new year and time to get costs under control. One of the things we figured we would do it lower our cable/phone/internet bill. All in all we were paying 182.43/mo. Cable - 67.48, Phone 69.00, Internet 45.95. We switched to Comcast phone, knocked off 35.01/month right there, good. Next was cancelling Comcast cable and switch to Dish Network, another potential savings of 32.49. During the conversation, the Comcast Rep 3 times explains that just because they have "Noggin", my kids will be deprived all in the name of saving money. Well, I know all the tactics, but here is one that got me by surprise...As I was ironing out the details of cancelling the cable tv, he then explains that Comcast will now have to INCREASE MY INTERNET by $14.00/month because I am cancelling cable. This really ticks me off... We have been with Comcast for years and they offer NEW subscribers $33 for phone, cable, and internet which is NOT offered to existing customers. I am doing everything in my power to try to go with a different ISP, but Cable is king, especially when you are using it for online PC and XBOX gaming.
Has anyone run into this issue with Comcast raising their rates in retaliation for cancelling another service ? |

| It's usually $10 more for internet without video services. I don't know where the extra $4 is coming from, but it's nothing new to be charged extra for internet when you don't have their TV service. They advertise it on all of their print material and on the web site. |

Comcast started applying the "non-TV" penalty about 7-8 years ago and steadily increased the amount over time. In our area its now $17 extra. -- Mission Accomplished |

Comcast's price for HSI 6 years ago was the exact same with or without TV bundled ($29.95 ). For 3 years straight there was a ~20% HSI only price increase (smaller increases continued in following years). A discount would have meant that the TV & HSI customers prices would have received reduced pricing for having a "bundle". Their prices were not reduced and HSI customer prices were increased. A subtle but important difference which today provides HSI only customer with a $17 penalty. -- Mission Accomplished |

@gte.net | reply to Pitster You would think that they would still not charge you the $14.00 premium if you have phone service with them.
Does the $14.00 only kick in if you have TV with Comcast? |

| reply to Pitster I've always been charged $63 / month for their 8/768 Internet and I never had their TV service.
So apparently canceling the TV service isn't what causes them to charge more; it's not having it that does. -- Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali invites you to wear a burqa for peace. |

Does the $14.00 only kick in if you have TV with Comcast? I can't say that I disagree with that.
I believe in discounts for bundling, but I'm not a big fan of the higher non-video charge.
I guess it could be worse. I know a few cable cos that still won't let residential subs have HSI AT ALL without video service. |

| Unless they changed very recently (within the last couple of months), Service Electric Cablevision in Hazleton, Pa for one. (Their counterpart in Sunbury, Pa offers HSI only and charges $10.)
And certain Blue Ridge systems.
There are probably more of them out there that I don't know. |

| reply to Pitster every time i think about the $14 difference (what it is in my Comcast area), i think about how 90% of people in my area are stuck in a 2 year written contract with Bellsawth...ahem...i mean....AT&T....and are tied into a set price for sub par Direct TV satellite service with fake HD channels, overpriced landline phone service, and anemic 768k DSL......all for the low low price of .....hold your breath.....$140 a month minimum
and after thinking about that being the only alternative, the $14 premium for a non TV customer for high speed internet seems rather small.....
i pay $135 a month for Comcasts superior TV service with HD, DVR, and two premium movie channels and broadband 6/384 service which typically runs 10/350
used to use Vonage for phone, works well
just thinking outloud here.....gotten off topic..but yeah, the price hike for non TV customers has been since i can remember |

| reply to Pitster Weird, you might try calling back and seeing if you get someone else thats willing to work with you, i know around here they give the $33/each for 12 mos to existing customers if they're swapping to dish and havent had a promotion in the last 6mos to a year. -- ...I don't have a 8mb speedy connection, I fly through the net at low altitudes! |

AT&T only charges $14.99 for their anemic 768 DSL.
Here, in California, we pay $67.99 per month for 3M/.5M DSL and DirecTV. No HD because we don't have the receiver for it, though. Compared with your fees, I get to take $67.01 to The Right Stuf International for anime DVDs, and to Kinokuniya for manga tankoubon. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

The "higher non-video charge" is the -REGULAR PRICE- Bundle your HSI with Video and you get a discounted price.
So you agree with bundeling discounts.. but you dont agree with prices when they are NOT bundled? -- CableFAQ.org/Technicians Unplugged
