I half telecommute

I work out of a home office a few hours a day and work out of my car the rest of the day and my area is south Brooklyn, south Queens and the rest of long island. My company gives me $450 a month for local expenses which covers all of my gas $200, cell phone $40, internet $35 and a VOIP line $25, a couple of trips to the city on the train $50, plus something towards car expenses. So I guess I get my internet paid for.

I do leave the house anywhere from 7 to 9.30 am and work at home from 6 to 8 pm most days doing paperwork answering emails etc. My feeling is that it is much easier to put in an extra hour at home than it is at work so many employers actually get a few extra hours out of telecommuters. I am also in sales, so I am very accountable for job performance.

In my present situation I like working from home, but in a previous job I spend 8 hours a day in my home office and hated it. Living and working inside one's house and really not leaving much from Monday to Friday was incredibly restricting and boring so i can understand why people who have done it would rather travel an hour or so every day to get to the office where they are with other people.

Re: I half telecommute

I would kill to be able to telecommute. Haven't found anything that is actually legit that falls within my current skill range though . Now if I could only get my terminally ill laptop to actually stop giving me SQL errors I might be able to :\
