| [Outlook] What would be the best way to do this?
I want to share outlook on 2 computers at the same time. I know I can share the .pst file but I cannot access it from 2 computers at the same time.
Is the only solution is running a exchange server? If so what version is the best?
Thanks |

| There is no way I know of opening a .pst file on more than one computer at the same time. You can do it one at a time or there are utilities which will sync the .pst between two machines in a smart manner (as opposed to just copying the file)
You know that Exchange will only run on a server OS with Active Directory, DNS, etc. installed, configured, etc., and all your workstations being a member of the domain, etc, etc, etc.? |

| reply to BIG b i am beginning to learn all of this .. This is way to much trouble to share outlook.
What I am trying to do is ...
I have Verizon Wireless and one of those LG enV. I am using there wirless e-mail sync to sync with outlook on my LG enV cell phone. It works great but I have to leave my laptop on all the time to use it. I have a file server that stays on all the time.
My idea so far is I am going to remote desktop into the file server and open outlook with the shared .pst file. Install the Verizon sync software on the file server. This will take care of the sync.
I will only do this when I am gone for the day. Then when I get back home... remote into the server close outlook then open outlook on my laptop.
I am now just wondering how I would be able to get my e-mail on my laptop if I am away from my house. (since the shared pst file will be on my network drive. I may just keep a sync copy of the .pst file on my laptop then just update it before I leave with the laptop then sync again when I return ...
Seams like this will work ...
Thanks for the advice |

| Just a couple ideas that you may not have yet considered:
1)You can get an Exchange mailbox easily these days for probably $5-$10 per month. Quite a few providers out there. You won't have to worry about running your own Exchange Server.
2)Alternatively, and admittedly the last time I looked at this was probably 4-5 years ago, there are some utilities/workarounds that help to ease the pain of trying to do the .pst file sharing/syncing you want. Ultimately I wasn't too satisfied with any of them, but you might find something that works for you. The best source of info I found was at »slipstick.com/outlook/index.htm. You may need to dig around that site a bit.
YMMV |
