Seems to me like the rep was being honest with you. At&T does not make the phones and from what I understand no longer actively trys to sell them. You should be glad the customer service person didn't push you to buy a phone with an AT&T logo on it. Just be glad he gave you some good advice.
Good advice from a CSR/Tech support! No say it isn't so!!!

 Yea I know, heaven forbid anyone at AT&T give good advice. Someone call hell see if lucifer is ok.

The good thing about giving good advice is you feel better in doing it, but it's not your fault if they don't take it and run with it.
