| reply to dadkins Re: Yep!
I do not have one problem downloading that movie. You can download it while you are alseep or at work. Nothing to it. No biggie! But you go ahead and buy the movie. We need someone supporting the studio. Thanks! |

| reply to dadkins I don't, and I don't think anyone in America does. That wasn't the point.
You don't have a want or need because you simply can't.
I will use 1080p, and no I don't have a Blu-Ray player/recorder as of yet. What difference does that make in this discussion, exactly? -- Cheers, Stephanie - www.GlitterFaerie.com |

| reply to c0de said by c0de :I would think it would take (over bittorrent) just as much time to download a BD as it would to have one delivered from Netflix. LOL, or Blockbuster. Good point. I was all set to go get my PS3 today, but checked out the long waits on BB online and decided to wait until there are more Blu Ray available. I dont mind going with a PS3 blu ray right now even if it gets beat out by HDDVD in the future. It will be a while before one beats out the other, so that means that there will be plenty of both formats for a while. Also, even if blu ray loses, you have the best console on the planet(ok, call me fanboy), that is if you purchased the PS3. -- Nice guys finish last. |

| reply to dadkins The beauty of that is you can store your collection of 1080p movies on a file server and have access to all of them instantly on your TV without ever dealing with any kind of media.
I don't see anything wrong with uploading it, and if I download it at my connections full capacity it would take around 4 hours. Yes, it's slow, but it's still faster than (as a previous poster mentioned) Netflix or any of those other similar services.
Why would they re-encode it? A lot of movies that are on BitTorrent etc. already use MPEG4 profiles of some form or another (some even use x264). It wouldn't make any sense to do that.
What is that picture showing? Your blocky fonts are very hard to read. -- Cheers, Stephanie - www.GlitterFaerie.com |

| reply to Goober The reason people are doing this is not to pirate but to circumvent the hdcp compliancy requirements, for the ability to stream their own purchased content via their current VGA equipment.
The industries are trying to force consumers to replace perfectly good theater setups with hdmi capable ones to plug the analog hole... |

| I don't have a problem with that. I absolutely believe in fair use and I don't agree with any arguments to the contrary, nothwithstanding the DMCA.
But, I think those that deny that this information will not be used for piracy are kidding themselves. |

| reply to dadkins But if the movie is *only* released in Blue Ray or HD DVD, folks may still want to *ahem* "trade" it by recoding it at lower quality. That would probably reduce the size of the upload/download.
Frankly I'd be happy if I could still do what I do with DVDs. Before I go on a business trip, I usually rent a few videos, copy them to my laptop's HD, return the videos and watch them at my leisure over the next several days. When I'm done watching them, I delete them. I'm sure someone has a problem with this but I'm just avoiding the frigging outrageous hotel On Demand rental charges and making the flight pass more quickly.
I know with the Internet rental services I could take the DVD with no worry of late fees but that's one more thing to pack/lose/break. It's really nice to just have it on the hard drive. And maybe I it's my power settings but if I run the DVD drive, I don't get as much battery life. |
