all of you are missing the point.

wake up!

its not about the BR/HD DVDs being traded. the folks that are cracking the protection on Blu-Ray DVDs and HD-DVDs are doing it to prove that the MPAA protection isn't worth a damn. who cares if the movies can be traded or not. its about the little guy beating the big bad evil corporate empire.
its the same reason most hackers do the thing that they do. to prove that it can be done.

I'm all for the cracking of it. It cost so much to create all this bullshit DRM that it eventually cost more per disc to produce.

If a DVD was normally priced at 10/12$ people would buy a lot more of them. Instead of getting netflix and copying them.

Oh I understand. Trust me! I sure as hell want to backup my BD movies!

The trading part is still there though.
If you look, you can find HD DVDs on BT right now!
Same reason, because they can!

My reasons still stand though, these things have some big ass file sizes!

yes, i know the real HDDVD and Blueray rips are bigger. but that side has lots of movies from skytv, they are only around 8 to 10 gigs, and they are definitely sharper than a normal 480p dvd.
