And I just bought a TiVo Series 3 and transferred the lifetime service to it. Doh! At least for me, it was cheaper than a comparable MythTV system.
Oh wait, this article is just FUD, speculation and rumor. I don't have anything to worry about. |

I just run it on my existing desktop. I did have to buy a TV tuner card though. $45 on sale, if I remember correctly. The guide data is free, not a monthly (or lifetime) pay subscription like Tivo. |

And it pilots your STB so that it tunes the correct channel. -- "the two most abundant things in the universe are Hydrogen and stupidity." (Harlan Ellison) |

I wouldn't say it's FUD or a rumor, but obviously it's speculation. However, I agree with Yankee for the most part. TiVo, as a consumer hardware device, I believe will be dead for the most part by 2010. With just about every major cableco/telco/satelliteco having their own DVR hardware, many people are just opting to go with that hardware. They don't want to go through the hassles of setting up the TiVo to control the digital receiver. They want features like VoD that the DVRs provide as part of the service, but that TiVo doesn't.
Sure TiVo has a great interface. And I see them around after 2010 more as a software company licensing their interface, not as a hardware company. -- Go Colts |
