| [trouble] Verizon DSL - Maximum number of Phones
Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.
a- Two lines coming into house - both from Verizon. b- Structured wiring from all rooms terminates in a wiring closet (Ortronics patch panels - coax and RJ45). c- Verizon NID is also in the wiring closet. d- Channel Vision C-0432 (phone distribution modules) are used between the Ortronics RJ45 patches and NID e- Line 1 has about 12 'voice devices' connected to it (phones, sat receivers). f- Line 2 had one phone, fax and DSL. g- Filters on everything except Actiontec DSL modem. -------------- To 'migrate' Line 2 to VOIP service and drop Line 2, DSL was moved to line 1. Before the move of the DSL service, everything worked perfectly. -------------- After Verizon moved DSL to line 1, the max number of phones that I can connect is 4. Regardless of the combination (phone or telco patch port) the DSL connection drops when the fifth phone is patched in...Phones still work (in fact all twelve work, just not DSL when more than 4 are patched). Fax still on Line 2. -------------- a- Tried wiring modem direct to NID - same results. b- Tried Westel modem - same results. c- Spent hours on the phone with tech support up to third level and they have no clue... d- SNR down/up is 11/6 e- Attenuation down/up is 31/17 f- Speed is 3360/864 -------------- Thoughts???
Thanks. Jeff |

| With the modem connected to the NID, nothing on the other side should affect the connection. If it does, you have something wired wrong. The disconnect is happening because your Up Margin is at 6, which is the point of disconnect. Why that Margin is so low is the problem. |

| Thanks for your fast reply. All of the punchdowns were checked multiple times and seem OK. I called in a ticket to Verizon (not online/DSL). They tested and I can now plug in all phones OK...cleared while testing... I did notice that whenever I would patch another phone the connection would drop then come back up. BTW, what should up margin be? |
