Re: 6MB Data

although the implication is that speeds will be faster (up to the 25M?) if you're not doing anything else, I thought there were reports from at least one customer that although he was synching at 19-20M, he still couldn't get any faster download than 6M.

Oh it's definatly a one way street. Watch too much TV and your broadband will suffer. But don't think about your broadband getting access to that extra bandwidth. It's capped ..... how else would they be able to charge different prices for 1.5 / 3 / 6.

Even if current DSL (not UVerse) was not capped, you only sync at whatever speed you ordered (1.5/3/6) so you can't go any higher (unless you buy a faster package) even if your line can support it.

As for UVerse, I am sure than modems will have to sync at the full 25 (where close enough/available) due to that requirement for video, but they most likely cap internet at 6 to leave the rest for IPTV/VoIP... no matter if you have voice and TV or not.

As for them offering faster than 6 internet in UVerse...
Most likely a rumor spilled out. If you have TV/VoIP it is unlikely you will even be able to get anything faster than 6. If you don't have voice/video... most likely you will be screwed on internet speed in the future... until ADSL 3 comes out or they decide to go FTTH (then you'll have to wait for them to re-upgrade your area again).

Personally, unless ATT decides to go FTTH soon I see cable companies deploying DOCSIS-3 or FTTH with 25-100mb/s speeds long before ATT offers anything faster than 6.
