I could try without my 50foot extension from my office. Until I buy a laptop I cant really test by hooking up my modem to the basement phone jack since I don't really want to carry my 19+ monitor to the basement + computer. But I do plan on buying a new laptop hopefully in a week or 2
Is that a 50' phone cable extension or a 50' ethernet cable?
if it's a phone, then that could be your problem....

Its a regular cheap dollar store 50ft extension its not a good quality Ethernet cable.

So yes, it could be part of the problem.

Also if it makes a diff, i got all phones filtered and got my 5.8ghz cordless phone double filtered.

That's probably the problem, hmmm, I'd suggest if you're planning on being that far from the jack to attach the modem there and run an ethernet cable in place of the phone extension OR running a 50' cat 3($8 @ CDN Tire) and installing a new jack (it's easy, just open the old jack and piggyback the current setup{red-red green-green black-black yellow-yellow} then copy it on the new jack)

ie:Jack in old room(open this and copy the existing setup with the 4-wire Cat3 cable)---Run Cat 3 to new room---Install new jack(copy original setup match green to green red to red, etc) plug in 6' cable from modem to new jack

should solve some of your issues anyway

Well I hooked up the modem directly to the phone jack and here are the results I got. Does not look like much changed to me then again I don't really know what I'm looking at lol.

Thanks

Your attenuation is 1 db less and noise margin is 0.5db less.

You know the simplest way I can see is.
Split the phone line from where you have it. connect the modem. then run a long ethernet cable to your pc.

Try removing interleave now and see if its stable if not run the ethernet wire shouldn't cost more than 10~15$

I could movie my modem closer to the jack and just run ethernet to my Router and get rid of the 50ft splitter.

But my question is it really worth it to move it in my office? I like where it is now? Was that really a big improvement on my line?

I have already e-mailed my isp about telling bell to put my on fast-path, They should be ale to put me on there without any problems.

I think the reason why they put me on interleave is because I was getting low upload speeds but after some testing I found out its my isp and not something else.

Thanks

Well try it out. with fastpath but if its unstable and you really see a huge latency different you want to keep. rewire and even then nobody can guarantee stability.

Quick Question, Anybody know where I can buy a High Quality Phone cable to replace my 50ft one?

I was just thinking If I could buy a phone cable just like the one that came with my new SpeedTouch modem just double the length I could use that and get rid of my 50ft one.

Any ideas on where I could buy one of these double the length of the speedtouch one?

Thanks

Go to your local electronic store and ask for a CAT5E or CAT6 network cable with a two phone jack heads and the crimper and make one urself

i still recommend having the modem there and run a long network cable.

Do you have a diagram for the order and which pins I'm supposed to use?

Ya I could move the modem but it just makes more sense where it is, lol. Unless I have to I rather not move it.

Thanks

I just got the modem, from what I read here I should leave the default firmware on the modem if I want to use this software right?

You have your actual line stats available? You should get them and post as you might be able to have your line bumped up now with that kind of noise margin. If the capacity is decent you might be able to make a decent difference!

I would caution people not to plug the modem in, pull stats and then demand an upgrade. The modem stats may change as the line stabilizes, and could be quite different, so maybe give it a few days. It is well known the modem will only lower it stats due to line conditions after start up and does not improve when the line conditions improve, until the modem is rebooted.

Hi JayMan,

Need your actual stats from your ISP so that we can see your line capacity...

Sounds like a safe idea to me... wasn't really aware of there being that much of a difference, but from a logic standpoint, it makes sense!

Tx!

I agree - even the weather changes affect the line.

Feel the same way, got to observe the modem and what goes on for a week at least, and see if it's stable, etc.
