Problems with WRT54G v6, lost connection.

I am having problems with my Linksys WRT54G v6. Sometimes I have to disconnect the power from the router about 5-8 times a day because it seems the internet turned off...I didn't know what was wrong with it, at first I thought it was actually my modem from AT&T (SBC) DSL but connected right to the pc there are no problems. I don't know if it might be problems with settings or what but I think I have the newest firmware, its v1.01.0. Has anyone heard of this problem and know a way to fix it?

If your modem is a SpeedStream 5100b or 4100,try this setup »Re: [Wired] Linksys router keeps dropping connection [BEFSR41]

Man, I thought it was working perfectly this time...but just a minute ago before I posted this I lost connection. I disconnect router for a sec and it works again. :P It lasted longer this time though...What is wrong with this?

Oh yeah, maybe you might need to know this. On the router on the basic setup section I have DHCP enabled and I have an IP address set to each pc. Is that right?

As long as the IP addresses you assign manually to each PC are not within the DHCP servers range,it will be fine.

EXAMPLE: Router's IP 192.168.2.1

DHCP Server On:192.168.2.50 to 192.168.2.99

Statically Assigned IP PC's:192.168.2.2,192.168.2.3,and 192.168.2.4

Mtneeer, I'm wondering, why is this way in particular necessary? I get why I would want PPPoE on the modem instead of the router, but the rest of the guide I don't understand.

Why can't the router have the real IP address (instead of 192.168.1.64)? Why switch from 192.168.1.x to 192.168.2.x? By default the router assigns WAN IPs starting from 192.168.1.100, so it shouldn't collide with the 192.168.1.64 IP of the router. Why "Use Static IP Address" when it seems like "Automatic configuration - DHCP" accomplishes the same ends? But my biggest question is how/why your setup prevents disconnects...

I have it set up differently and am wondering if my setup messes stuff up.

This gives you access to the GUI of the modem, through the router »/faq/amfaq/2.2···em#12670 and from this FAQ I quote" NOTE:192.168.1.64 is a private IP address that leads one to believe some NAT / NAPT is used. But this private IP address is as open to the internet just like a public IP address is. The modem will perform NAT / NAPT on any other 192.168.X.X IP address." Also when the WAN and LAN share the same IP address range, this will confuse the router's NAT logic. Most of the time, the router will freeze-up,and the only way to get it working again is to powercycle the router.

These are my settings in that section...

And I have the PCs assigned to 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101, 192.168.1.102, and 192.168.1.103. Is that right or have I had it wrong for a long time? :P

If you are assigning IP addresses Statically, then you got it wrong. Place them outside of the DHCP servers range. Also change the LAN IP address to something other than 192.168.1.1. The 3rd octet of the IP address should be between 2 to 254. (See Screen Shot)

Ok, I have made the changes. My router is now 192.168.2.1, the DHCP (which I now don't understand what is for :P LOL) is starting from 192.168.2.100-104. And IP addresses on PCs are 192.168.2.105, 192.168.2.106, 192.168.2.108, 107 would be brothers but he doesn't want to check anything so he will have to figure it out himself once he has lost connection (I don't know why he still has connection, I lost mine until I changed the IP and gateway and stuff) LOL. So what is DHCP for?

DHCP is for PC's that have their TCP/IP protocol set to Obtain an IP Address Automatically. »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DHCP

Oh, ok. So if someone were to have wireless on like a laptop or something around my house they would still need one of the passwords/keys to get on it, right?

Yes,as long as you have Wireless Security activated(WEP,WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK)and they have thier TCP/IP protocol setup for DHCP.

Hey, I have been using these settings for the past few days but I keep getting the same problem. What could it be? I think it is turning off less often though.
