| Vista driver support - HP Well - I have been patiently waiting for HP to announce their driver support for Vista. I have a HP 3970 Scanner and 5150 printer
I just found this on the scanner (HP website)
Introduction We are sorry to inform you that there will be no Windows Vista printer driver available for your HP product. Therefore your product will not work with Windows Vista. If you are using the Windows Vista operating system on your computer, please consider upgrading to a newer HP product that is supported on Windows Vista. HP has numerous products on the market that support Windows Vista: »www.hp.com/united-states/tradein···ash.html
This scanner is less than 2 years old!!! |

| Ya gotta admire HP's balls.
I have a 7960 Photosmart printer attached to this computer that will have Vista drivers. This printer is over 2 years old. I also have an Office Jet R40 that will run under Vista. Its over 5 years old. But my 4670 Scanjet will not work in Vista and its just 2 years old.
Most likely I'll run a Virtual PC under Vista and use the scanner from there. Or move it to my other Desktop running XP. -- When angry count four; when very angry, swear.

1 edit | reply to dellsweig I'm not surprised that some devices won't be supported, and its much worse with proprietary hardware, they don't feel they should if they don't make anymore money on discontinued items.
However you still seem to be jumping the gun again, period. Your devices that will be supported might not have their drivers made available until later on, possibly just a few days.
I installed the drivers for my printer in XP compatibility mode which was hit/miss performance, and the manufacturer has confirmed support for my printer in Vista, however you can't download the drivers from their website at this time. -- My hourly rates: $25 per hour. $35 per hour if you want to watch. $45 per hour if you want to help. $75 per hour if you tried to fix it, and failed. $125 per hour if you called tech support, and didn't fix the issue while making things worse |

| reply to dellsweig MANY printers from HP are automatically recognized by the OS. I can tell you that my OfficeJet 6110xi works perfectly, both printing and scanning (using Photoshop CS2 to scan, but you can use any scan software).

 | reply to dellsweig Vista RC2 saw my USB HP Laserjet 1012 just fine. I "upgraded" to Vista Home Premium (VHP) and now no more HP 1012. Strange that RC2 had no problem but the commercial release does.
For what it's worth, VHP can print fine to a printer on my LAN set up as local with a standard TCP/IP printer port. |

Actually, I like the Vista drivers better since they don't bog the system down. I haven't checked yet to see if the 7660 is supported.
Historically, HP hasn't been one to support new operating systems. |

| reply to dellsweig Ahhh f*c.... I was concerned about my printer (HP LJ 1018) which they claim will be Vista supported but no driver has shown up yet, and didn't even think about my scanner - the 3970...
I am furious about that... Sure, if it is 10 year old hardware, or there is some technical reason it can't be supported... but come ON, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the friggin scanner, yet they arbitrarily decide not to "bother"...
I've maybe scanned 15 documents with it. I bought a good one because I wanted it to last for years... I certainly haven't gotten my money's worth out of it yet, but they want me to buy a new one already?
Geezz...
are there ANY companies that don't hose their customers by not providing drivers for anything but the absolute newest models? |

 | reply to dellsweig Well gee, another thing that won't work with Vista. They really, really want us to buy complete new computers to go with the complete new O/S don't they? At least with XP most of my older hardware (and by older, I mean less than ONE YEAR old) worked.
My audio won't work, my video card isn't "compliant with their new security DRM crapola", definitely my monitor isn't "compliant",despite being only 9 months old, etc.
I've seen similar complaints elsewhere, wherein perfectly good hardware won't work with the new DRM-ridden O/S and the various companies see a great opportunity to force people to re-purchase hardware to replace just about their whole system.
I swear, I smell a conspiracy here. No proof of course. I'm just not enamored with replacing all of my hardware every time MS gets a bug up it's corporate butt and releases a new "feature-rich" new O/S. |
|
 | reply to dellsweig I don't know if I was just lucky... but I managed to get my HP printer to work with older drivers... same with my Epson Photo Printer. What ticks me off is I have two software programs, pcAnywhere 11.5 and PhotoDex, which will not even load... both of which... I use quite often. -- My pbase Gallery |

But here is the kicker, my ancient HP 540 printer worked in XP and I wouldnt be too surprised if that old HP 540 was supported in Vista.
The only reason I bought another HP was because I found a quasi new modal P1000 PhotoSmart printer for like ~$20 on the street with manuals, driver disc, ink and original packaging. It works great!
