| reply to TilhasBB said by TilhasBB :the noise margin increased but the attunation droped with the speedtouch. You want the noise margin to be higher and the attenuation to be lower - that's a good thing.

 Speedtouch 516 | Gnet B00060 |
lookatthings: Cause all 3 of us are heavy internet users.
Well since switching over to the speedtouch 516, I haven't noticed a drop yet. I went and downloaded 2 DMT versions for each modem and it appears (If I read it correctly) I'm getting a better margin signal with the speedtouch. |

@bell.ca | reply to bumbo why dont you jsut go with the best line and set things up ireless based on that feed. if its only one floor no need to be paying two dsl feeds....you ll make up the price of a wireless card in a month or two |

| reply to weales I honestly believe it will, the Gnet's are flaky at the best of conditions, downright atrocious at marginal lines, that's where the trusty Speedtouch comes into play, if it's attainable and doable the Speedtouch will do it.. -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

| reply to weales you both using the same type of modem? The reason I ask is because it's been my experience that Gnet sucks for marginal lines... -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

| In short, bell upgraded my line recently and now I get dropped a lot. Of course I called my ISP to lower my profile but I took a look at my father's line (same house) and got some odd readings. Note, him and my brother use that line while I use my own and they have NEVER reported any frequent dropping problems while I have on my current profile
Gnet BB0060
My Line stats 840 / 3000 Fastpath
Local Tx Power: 0.0 dB Remote Tx Power: 0.0 dB Local Line Atten.: 55.5 dB Remote Line Atten.: 31.0 dB Local SNR Margin: 10.0 dB Remote SNR Margin: 8.0 dB
Dad's Stats 800 / 4032 Fastpath
Local Tx Power: 11.95 dB Remote Tx Power: 18.80 dB Local Line Atten.: 55.5 dB Remote Line Atten.: 31.0 dB Local SNR Margin: 7.5 dB Remote SNR Margin: 9.0 dB
I've done some light reading on understanding the stats but just don't understand how I drop while he doesn't. |
