Re: AntiVirus Poll 2007

NOD32 and Avast on different systems.
Both have 64-bit support which I like.

LOL! I voted like last month.
This is an old topic that's been bumped!

Virusbuster is malware!

And I'm shocked that that many people use Avg,when it constantly rates at the bottom of almost every AV test in detection!

Last year I used NOD32 .. Decent Av but it didn't catch everything (eventually it gets updated...)

Then I went to KAV.. Big mistake!

Now I use Avast! Free! Great! No Problems! Detection is very good!

AVG Free! I've used it for years, after NAV became bloated crap.

I looks just like the FREE version and it updates the same way.

Currently I am using Avast! which I am very impressed with, I would like to try the paid version but not sure if I should uninstall this version or not.
There is a very slight difference between the free and the paid. If it is important, you can schedule a scan (1 day or 7 days a week) with the paid version.
edit: The install of the paid version will uninstall the FREE version.
Really? What about auto updates?

Re: AntiVirus Poll 2007-should be new topic.

Museheart, I used Norton products for 4-5 yrs. Went to 360, like you could not tell if it was working. Have seen some very high reviews for it, I'll see if I can remember where and link you. I uninstalled it, got a refund and now use CA Sec. Suite which has my AntiVirus program. It doesn't seem to be hard on my resources. The tech support has been excellent and quick to respond. wbg

btw, I voted in this poll.

I am trying out Norton 360 and I can find no reviews at all.

I can't tell if it is working or not!

I was using Trend Micro.

Anyone else try norton 360?

Re: AntiVirus Poll 2007

I like AVG. I briefly used Panda and it seemed to hog up all my resources. I have previously used Norton and McAfee, both were OK, but wanted to try something else.

I am always willing to try another one out, but would prefer freeware.

Thanks for this poll, it is interesting.

F-Prot 6 over here on the Windows boxes, and the latest Linux version on the Linux boxes. I use it on the Linux boxes mainly when I download files for Windows machines before they go on the USB flash drive.

F-Prot doesn't slow the system down, and the latest version updates real fast. It isn't in your face about other products, so I don't even realize it is installed unless I look for it in the system tray or it finds something.

So many security products now turn your PC into a huge billboard for all of the vendor's other products. I just want something that does what it says and does it well. This is why I like it for family systems as well. I don't want them to be bothered with prompts to buy all of this other stuff, and I know they will just ask me about it anyways. F-Prot does it job quietly.

Now, I just want them to finish up that Vista version or at least put out a beta.

For larger installations, I would like to try the new F-Prot Corporate version. It can pull updates and settings from a central server, but it is all or nothing and not quite as elegant as some of the competing products. I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't work, though.

Currently, I am using Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition for larger installations (20+ computers). It also stays out of the way and doesn't advertise for other products. The licensing setup of Corporate is not annoying and can be tracked easy enough (through the management console if all clients are installed in Managed mode). It also doesn't seem to slow down the computers too much unless they are very slow to start with.

It is not uncommon for Corp. AV accounts to include copies for employees as part of the contract.

On my main computer at home I have been using NOD32 for about a year now and I am very happy with it. I used eXtendia AntiVirus for several years but it would not work with XP64 and their tech support was completely clueless.
At work I use Symantec Corporate Edition because that is mandatory in my company. I personally get the feeling that it couldn't catch a cold.

Adversely, don't ask users why, you have to ask some AV that you think they're supposed to have better detection wise such as Kaspersky, NOD32, Avira, Dr.Web, BitDefender or others why, why...
For the most part, especially for the free ones, it is simply that the most popular ones have been around longer. The newer ones will take a while to get established. They have to rely on word of mouth (or forums like this) to become recognized, since they can't afford to advertise the free ones very much. And in the case of NOD32 and Kaspersky, they require, or at least have the options for, more configuration than the average user is interested in doing.

Nod32 . Have been using it for about four years, and although there's now some serious competition, I haven't yet seen or heard nything that would cause me to switch to another AV.

Extremely happy with it.

I voted Nod32 and None which is 100% accurate.

Btw, how many are aware of virusbtn.com ? The professional AV test lab in the UK. If interested in AV effectiveness register (free) for their VB100 page(s). That will read Virus Bulletin 100% Award on their site.

Normally I do not run AV software. If I suspect a problem I will d/l the nod32 DOS test version and scan machines.
